No prescouting allowed in the park after Wednesday, October 22.

UPDATE 10/21/2008: www.ARLeaderboard.com will be used to display team rankings during the race.  This depends on how well the laptop air card works :)

Kipley Fiebig will be directing this event!  Kip has many years experience adventure racing, as well as a number of top finishes in multi-day expedition races.  We're excited that he has chosen to direct this year's event!

No outside maps are allowed during this event, other than the standard park map.

UPDATE 9/21/2008:  We are using Blackjack Campgrounds for our TA.  If you plan to bring a travel trailer, let me know and I will put you on the list.  The cost is $14 per night.  For now, just let me know, but I may ask you to reserve online through the park website. 


This event is always a big hit with new and veteran racers alike! Solo, 2, 3 and 4 member teams are welcome to come test their skill and endurance in this non-stop adventure race.  This is our 7th year for the Pain in the Pines Adventure race. 

The race will include navigation with a map and compass, but don't worry if you don't know how. We'll be glad to help!  The navigation in this race will be slightly more difficult than in our Tyler Adventure Sprint race.

Approximate Distances (finish time 8-12 hours):

  • Mountain Biking 15-25 miles
  • Trekking 8-12 miles
  • Paddling 2-4 miles

Race fees include:

  • Race entry
  • Park entry
  • Maps
  • Liability Insurance (This Race is NOT using USARA sanctioning, so no additional fees or forms are required)
  • T-shirt or Cap (if you meet pre-reg deadline) and swag
  • Post-race food for racers

  • 7 pm - 8 pm Informal check-in at the main TA (All team members must have waivers turned in to get registration bags)

Saturday, October 25, 2008

  • 6:30 am Racer Check-in
  • 7:30 am Pre-race meeting
  • 8:00 am Race Start
  • 8:00 pm Race Cutoff

* Teams lose on CP for every 5 minutes late.  A 4 minute grace period is offered.  Teams start losing CPs at 8:05 pm.


Mandatory Gear per team:

  • 1:24k UTM Grid
  • Compass
  • Pen or pencil

Mandatory gear per person for Biking Legs:

  • Mountain Bike
  • Mountain Bike helmet

Mandatory gear for Paddle Legs:

  • Non-motorized boat(s).
  • PFD (life jacket) per person.
  • Paddle per person.
  • You may rent boats from the State Park or other places, like REI.
    - **If you plan to rent from the State park, please email me how many you need.  We will ask them to set aside a boat for you, that you can pay for before the race.**

Recommended Items:

  • Trail running shoes
  • Change of clothes
  • Hydration system (Eg: camelbak)
  • Food
  • Gaitors to protect your legs
  • Blister kit
  • Headlamp, if you think you might be racing for the full 12 hours

Teams are encouraged to register now. You may pay later, but must have money in by the pre-registration deadline to be eligible for the pre-registration discount offer.
Additionally, if the race sells out, teams that have not paid may be put on a waiting list, behind teams that have paid.

Cancellation Policy:   

Cancellations on or before Saturday, October 04, 2008 will receive 90% refund.
Cancellations after Saturday, October 04, 2008 will receive 50% refund. Cancellations (or no shows) the week of the event receive 0% refund. We have a VERY generous cancellation policy; however, we will strictly adhere to it. Racers are not officially registered, until we receive payment. No transfer credits for cancellations.
