Justin Reneau is directing this race.  While it's his first SteelSports race to direct, he has a long list of races to his credit with Sportspectrum, in Shreveport, LA. 

Teams of 2, 3 and 4* members are welcome to test themselves in this wonderful Texas State Park!  This race will include approximately 40-50 miles of mountain biking, trekking, paddling, special tests and a ropes/climbing course.  Teams should complete this event in approximately 8-12 hours.  Teams will be expected to navigate their way through the course using a map and compass!

*Solo racers allowed with RD approval.  Must submit race resume to be approved.

**Masters Coed teams will be rolled into the Coed division, if less than 5 teams enter that division.

***BE PREPARED TO PORTAGE YOUR BOAT (portage is on road, so a cart will help)**

Note: Current team max is 40; however, race director reserves the right to lower that max to make the ropes section run smoothly.

Race Distances:

  • Mountain Biking 20-25 miles;
  • Paddling 6-11 miles;
  • Trekking 8-12 miles;
  • Climbing/Rope work

Your race fees include:

  • Park entry (if you do not have a Texas Conservation Passport);
  • Race entry;
  • Maps (Note: one map will be provided per team.
  • T-shirt guaranteed if pre-registered
  • Other free stuff (swag) in race bag from Hammer Nutrition and others;
  • Divisions award
  • Post-race food

Race is limitted to the first 40 teams. We reserve the right to lower the limit to keep the ropes section from getting backed up.

Each team member must have:

  • Mountain Bike
  • Mountain Bike helmet
  • Hydration system (camelbak or just a water bottle)
  • Each team needs a boat or boats.
  • Each member needs PFD (life vest) and paddle (also free to use, if you email us).


Climbing Section (Required for each team member):

  • ATC or Figure 8;
  • Factory sewn Harness (not homemade);
  • Locking Carabineers x 2-4;
  • Climbing helmet, or mountain bike helmet;

  


Teams will need:

  • 1:24k UTM Grid
  • Compass
  • Pen or pencil for map marking;

Recommended Items:

  • Trail running shoes;
  • Change of clothes;
  • Light food to keep you going;
  • Blister kit

Primitive Camping in the TA: Feel free to set up your TA Friday night; however, if you wish to camp there, the park charges $6.  You can pay SteelSports.net, LLC and we will forward the payment to LMWSP.

Need a Boat? You have two options to rent boats.  One you can rent on with REI in Dallas Texas. Cost is $45 for the first day then $15 for each day after that for REI Memebers.  For Non-members it is $55 for the first day then $20 for each day after.

The second Rental option is to contact the concession Stand at Mineral Wells State Park )Note* This is independant of the State Park) You can talk to Jenny at 940-325-7152.  Normally they rent boats at an hourly rate but are working a deal for a flat rate.  Give them a call to setup something up. 


Rules:

  • Teams must finish the course with the same number of racers with which they started;
  • You must stay within 20 feet of your team during all parts of this race, failuer to do so will result in a time deduction.
  • No GPS units allowed;
  • Teams are self-sufficient on the course.  You carry your own food and water.  Support crews may assist you in any way possible while IN the Transition Area, but Never assist you on the course;
  • Teams are responsible to read and follow directions.  Failure to do so, may result in time penalties and/or race disqualification;
  • Safety equipment pertinent to each discipline must be worn at all times while participating in that activity (i.e. Mountain bike helmet, PFDs, etc.);

Teams are encouraged to register now. You may pay later, but must have money in by the pre-registration deadline to be eligible for the pre-registration discount offer.
Additionally, if the race sells out, teams that have not paid may be put on a waiting list, behind teams that have paid.

Cancellation Policy:   

Cancellations on or before Sunday, June 07, 2009 will receive 90% refund.
Cancellations after Sunday, June 07, 2009 will receive 50% refund. Cancellations (or no shows) the week of the event receive 0% refund. We have a VERY generous cancellation policy; however, we will strictly adhere to it. Racers are not officially registered, until we receive payment. No transfer credits for cancellations.
